Which Three Countries Are Members Of The North American Free Trade Agreement (Nafta)

NAFTA has accomplished six things for the participating countries. First, NAFTA granted the status of the most favoured nation to all signatories. This means that each country has not been able to treat the other two fair and domestic investors better than foreign investors. Nor were they able to offer a better offer to investors in non-NAFTA countries and had to offer federal contracts to companies in the three NAFTA countries. Many critics of NAFTA saw the agreement as a radical experiment developed by influential multinationals who wanted to increase their profits at the expense of ordinary citizens of the countries involved. Opposition groups argued that the horizontal rules imposed by nafta could undermine local governments by preventing them from enacting laws or regulations to protect the public interest. Critics also argued that the treaty would lead to a significant deterioration in environmental and health standards, promote privatization and deregulation of essential public services, and supplant family farmers in the signatory countries. The main provisions of NAFTA required a gradual reduction in tariffs, tariffs and other trade barriers between the three Member States, with some tariffs to be abolished immediately and others over a 15-year period. The agreement guaranteed duty-free access for a wide range of industrial products and goods traded between the signatories. “Domestic goods” have been granted to products imported from other NAFTA countries and prohibit all governments, local or provincial, from imposing taxes or tariffs on these products. Mr. Trudeau and Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland announced that they would join the agreement if it was in Canada`s interest.

[143] Freeland returned prematurely from his diplomatic trip to Europe and cancelled a planned visit to Ukraine to participate in the NAFTA negotiations in Washington at the end of August, D.C. [144] According to an August 31 Canadian press, published in the Ottawa Citizen, key supply management topics, Chapter 19, drugs, cultural exemption, sunset clause and de minimis thresholds. [140] Supporters of the North American Free Trade Area argued that the free trade area would increase trade and production for businesses and create millions of jobs in member countries.
